Personal Lists

The term "Personal List" was first used by Prof Sir Denis Pereira Gray in his 1979 article "The Key to Personal Care".

We define personal lists as a system where all patients have a designated named GP and the practice encourages patients to see that GP for as many of their GP appointments as possible. This is sometimes called a usual doctor system because some associate personal lists with a stricter system in which the named GP is expected to provide all appointments as well as dealing with all letters and test results etc. for their own list of patients.

Our Guide to personal lists gives information on how to set up and work within a personal list system in general practice.

It includes comments and stories from GPs who work in practices with personal lists.
